HUMANS VERSUS NATURE (2018)
Artist Statement:
These artworks, created through abstract mark-making, explore the theme of Humans versus Nature, tracing the environmental story from the Stone Age to the present. The series emphasises the adversarial relationship between humanity and the natural world, casting nature not as a passive backdrop or victim, but as an active protagonist.
Humankind has long been blind to the essential role nature plays. Only by moving toward harmony with the natural world can balance be restored. By recognising and valuing nature’s importance, humanity has the chance to transform—reversing the harms caused by alienation and exploitation.
The works also imagine a future in which, once humans disappear, nature inevitably reclaims its power. Cities, roads, and built environments would eventually be consumed, overtaken by the resilience of the natural world. This series ultimately underscores the choice before us: to continue down a destructive path, or to embrace a future shaped by respect, reciprocity, and environmental care.
