FRAGMENTED IMAGININGS (2019)
Artist Statement:
An artist’s world is a space where imagination runs wild, caught between the contradictions of fantasy and reality—a constant tension between what exists and what does not. Glimpses of these inner visions find their way onto canvas, yet the physical act of creation can never fully capture the vividness of what was first imagined. Dreams, once luminous, are often dulled when translated into reality.
Sharing such visions can feel frighteningly vulnerable, yet it can also be deeply liberating.
This work began as a self-portrait, emphasising the bleakness of the artist’s inner world. Acrylic paint and soft chalk pastel on canvas form shapes resembling shards of glass piercing the skin. Vibrant colours seep across the surface like blood, while a blurred triangular pattern conveys the disorientation of anxiety. Jagged, vivid forms branch toward the portrait, threatening to overwhelm the figure—her dark imaginings pressing in until they overtake her entirely.
